Sakaja Reshuffles Nairobi Cabinet, Moves Mosiria to Customer Service Docket

Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has announced major changes in his administration, affecting at least ten Chief Officers and introducing six new borough administrative units.

Outspoken Chief Officer for Environment Geoffrey Mosiria has been reassigned to the Citizen Engagement and Customer Service docket, marking his second reshuffle after previously being moved from the Health department. Mosiria has gained public attention for conducting enforcement crackdowns on polluters and sharing the operations on his social media platforms.

In the new line-up, Mosiria is replaced by Hibram Otieno, who formerly served as Chief Officer for Medical Facilities. Meanwhile, Lydia Mathia moves from Housing and Urban Renewal to the Business and Hustler Opportunities docket.

Other notable changes in the reshuffle include:

  • Godfrey Akumali, now heading Housing and Urban Renewal from the Business and Hustler Opportunities docket.

  • Tony Michael Kimani’s docket rebranded to Social Services and Estate Management.

  • Sande Oyolo shifts to Medical Facilities from Digital Economy and Start-ups.

  • Wilson Gakuya takes over Digital Economy and Start-ups.

  • Dr. Machel Waikenda retains Mobility while also serving as Acting Chief Officer for ICT Infrastructure.

  • Producer Clement “Clemo” Rapudo moves to Smart Nairobi from the City Culture, Arts and Tourism docket.

  • Zipporah Mwangi replaces Rapudo in his former role.

The reshuffle coincided with Sakaja’s announcement of the creation of six boroughs, Western, Northern, Southern, Eastern, South Eastern, and Central, aimed at improving service delivery and decentralizing county operations. Each borough will be headed by a manager, with appointments already confirmed.

Sakaja said the changes, anchored in the County Government Act, take effect immediately.
